Upper
Captiva Island (also known as North Captiva Island)belongs to a unique
chain of barrier islands situated in the Gulf of Mexico about three
miles off the southwest coast of Florida.
The island
enjoys an extraordinary natural beauty and special relationship
with Nature. No bridges exist to the mainland, making the island
more private and less developed than its sister islands Sanibel
and Captiva to the south.
Breathe the
air, feel the breeze...
Upper Captiva Island has the same beautiful beaches as Sanibel and
Captiva, without the hotels, traffic, and pollution. One-third of
the island is privately owned and the rest exists in a state-owned
wildlife preserve open for hiking, fishing, and beach activities.
Visitors and residents alike travel by water-taxis, private boats
and small aircraft from marinas and airports along Florida's west
coast. Electric golf carts provide transportation around the island.
