Professional Training for Biomedical Scientists
The most successful and cost-effective way for biomedical scientists to obtain training in unbiased stereology.
Each year the SRC sponsors three stereology courses: two ShortCourses in the Spring/Summer; and the three-day Stereology Workshop every Fall; in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Society For Neurosciences.

To foster an ideal balance between participants and instructors, availability of seats and discount hotel rooms will be limited to the first 25-30 registrations on a first-come, first-served basis; therefore, early registration is highly recommended.

During the past two decades, these training courses organized by Peter R. Mouton, Ph.D, official U.S. representative of the International Society for Stereology have trained thousands of biomedical scientists, students, and technical personnel in the principles and practices of modern stereology. The Stereology Workshop and ShortCourses provide the training needed to understand, apply, and provide peer-reviews for morphological, pathological, and toxicological studies. Participants of SRC training programs have published hundreds of stereology-related papers in peer-reviewed journals and successfully earned millions of dollars in federal and private grant support for their research programs.

To supplement these courses, Dr. Mouton authored the book, "Principles and Practices of Unbiased Stereology: An Introduction for Biomedical Scientists," published and distributed by The Johns Hopkins University Press in Baltimore, MD. Since publication in 2002, this book has been the best-selling stereology book worldwide according to on-line book sellers, e.g., Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Borders.com.
For further background and practical information on the biological applications of unbiased stereology, see the blog ("The Stereology Lowdown").

"I took the course in Chicago, which was terrific. I had very little previous background. I learned a lot and feel confident now that I can do stereology well. Several of the others mentioned that they had been to other courses and that this one was the best, especially the right combination of theory and practical instruction."
Participant, 15th Annual Fall Stereology Workshop, Chicago, IL.
"Provided outstanding hands-on training of stereological applications. I highly recommend this course to all scientists interested in using stereology in their research. I wish I had come to this course years ago."

"I learned much more from this course than from a previous one sponsored by MBF which was more focused on selling stereology software."
Participant, 15th Annual Fall Stereology Workshop, Chicago, IL.
"Great job. I really enjoyed the stereology course and learned a lot. Thanks!"
Participant, Spring 2009 Stereology ShortCourse, New Orleans, LA.
"I enjoyed the course very much. Well-practiced and proficient presentations. I learned a great deal that will be useful in my work."
Participant, Spring 2009 Stereology ShortCourse, New Orleans, LA.
"The Stereology Workshop provides a thorough introduction to stereological principles used for testing specific laboratory hypotheses. The instruction starts at a basic level, then demonstrates the scientific and statistical rigor of the methodology. The course is designed to cover a wide array of techniques and to offer instruction and feedback on participants' projects. I returned from the workshop with more potential projects than I brought, and immediately started to use the approaches in several projects. I highly recommend this course and especially enjoyed the interaction with the instructors and other participants. Thanks for all your help.
Participant, 14th Annual Fall Stereology Workshop, Kent Island, MD
"This course exceeded all of my expectations, really increased my skills in neural applications of unbiased stereology. Excellent faculty, I appreciate all of the individualized attention."
Participant, 13th Annual Fall Stereology Workshop, San Diego, CA.
"This Short ShortCourse was just exactly what I had hoped it would be! Almost every single item presented was something I will be able to put to good use - it was probably the single most informative day I have EVER spent at any conference or seminar. I advise everyone who uses, reviews, or even reads anything based on stereology to do whatever necessary to attend this course."
Many, many thanks,
Participant, 2006 Stereology ShortCourse, Houston, Texas
"This is my second stereology course. The other one was a 5-day course offered by another group. I learned much more at this course!
Participant, 12th Annual Fall Stereology Workshop in Atlanta, Georgia.
"The Stereology Workshop was a worthwhile
way to spend three or four days. Concepts were presented clearly
and followed by hands-on exercises. The low student-teacher ratio
allowed each participant to receive input on specific projects
from their laboratories. If you need stereology in your work but
don't know how to get started, this is a great course."
Participant, 9th Annual Fall Stereology Workshop, Captiva Island, Florida
"I found the Stereology Workshop a superbly
stimulating introduction to what is fast becoming the only robust
approach to morphometric quantification in neural tissues. A real
treat to be able to receive such information from some of stereology's
original pioneers!"
